18/05/2008 Sunday run out organised by Pete & Cath. Details as follows: Meet at Sarn Services at J36 on the M4 at 9.45 am for a 10.00 am departure. Head west and join the M4 at J39 and then leave at J40 to head on the A4107 through Cymer up to the look out point where the ice cream van often sits. Then down to Treorchy on the A4061. Up through Ferndale, Maerdy and on to Aberdare on the A4233. Then through Hirwaun into the Brecon park on the A4059. Then turn off through the lanes via Ystradfellte to Sennybridge. Plan to stop for coffee at The White House pub on the A40. Then head west again on the A40 and join the A4069 at Llandovery down to Brynamman. Then west to Ammanford and on to the A483 to Trapp, where we turn off for Carreg Cennen Castle. This will be quite a run, with a some good roads and scenery. There is a good and large car park, which is TVR friendly. The plan would be to then have lunch before tackling the walk up to the Castle and cave. There are a number of picnic tables if you want to bring a picnic, but also a large indoor seating area and food available (all around £3 - £5). Sandwiches, jacket potatoes etc. There is also a gift shop. Entry to the Castle is £3.70 per person, unless there are more than 15 of us in which case we can get a 10% discount. If you want to go into the cave, bring a torch. Also suggest some decent footwear for the walk to the Castle - it looks fairly uphill but apparently only takes about 10 minutes to get up to the Castle. Have not thought of a route back, much may depend on the weather, numbers etc and the mood on the day. It would be helpful if you could let us know if you hope to come - we might then be able to organise coffee in advance and/or food at the Castle cafe. Fingers crossed for dry weather! Pete and Cathryn
