TVR Chimaera - Stepper Motor Cleaning

The stepper motor controls the amount of air entering the engine at tickover by moving the valve closer or further away from the valve seat in the plenum chamber.
The stepper motor should be cleaned from time to time to remove deposits that build up, it is these deposits that can affect the idling.

Dificulty Level: Easy
Time to complete: 30-45mins

First remove the electrical connector, the Stepper Motor can then be unscrewed with the aid of a large adjustable spanner.
Stepper Motor Before Cleaning
This is what the stepper motor looked like before cleaning, not sure if this has ever been cleaned judging by the amount of deposits on the valve.

The deposits can be cleaned off with petrol and a stiff brush, then wiped clean with a rag.

Housing

The housing is a bit more difficult to clean, I used a rag moistened with petrol, make sure no bits of rag are left in the hole.
The stepper motor assembly can then be screwed back into the plenum and the electrical connector refitted, be careful too much pressure / torque will crack the housing, and a big bill. PTFE tape on the thread can create a seal and avoid the need for over tightening.
